Study Abroad

            I’m very interested in studying abroad, so when I heard that they were going to be talking about the different trips that the program offers I knew I wanted to go.  I plan on studying abroad when I’m a junior because I feel that it is the right time to go. At that time you should know what your major is so you can study what you want in the location you want.  I was very interested in hearing about all of the different places you could study abroad.  There are 35 different short term and long term trips that they offer from the International Program. I learned about the amount of credits that you receive according to how long you stay and how much a trip would cost. Studying abroad would be an unforgettable experience to learn about different cultures and to get the chance to travel the world.

Facebook

        

I chose to expand on social media, specifically Facebook, which was the second writing we did in class. Yes, I am on Facebook but I do not use Facebook as much as others, which lets me feel comfortable letting my friends see everything on my profile.  I do not use very many other social media sites because I feel that it is unnecessary time waster.  I mostly use Facebook to see what my other friends who go to different schools are doing.  There are benefits that I enjoy from Facebook such as group messaging. Group messaging allows my group of friends from high school keep in touch from far distances. Other than keeping in touch with my friends and seeing what they are up to, I do not use Facebook that often.

            This documentary was about three college students from Carleton University in Northfield, Minnesota. These three students went without using their computer for as long as they could, but their goal was three weeks.  Most assignments, projects, and e-mails are on the computer in college and so they had to figure out different ways to contact professors and peers without the use of their computer.

            I had mixed feeling about the purpose they were trying to accomplish. I feel that it is great to get away from your computer and use it as needed, but since people need their computer for school; I thought it was somewhat unrealistic to take away their computer. The three students said it was annoying not to have their computer around them because they needed it for school.  Students started to get interested in other hobbies because they were bored, since they didn’t have their computer. 

One example of how they got their homework done was they used typewriters for some of their homework. The students made it clear that is was frustrating for them to get their homework done without their computer because all of their homework was online.  A positive example is that students started to have more time to do things that they normally wouldn’t have like taking a walk outside, reading a book, or playing the piano. There were some positive and negative outcomes of this experiment, but it was a learning experience for all the students who participated.

I believe that the music people listen to describes their personality.  These songs are just some of the songs I like, mostly because they are happy songs. These songs to me will calm me down and make me feel better if I listen to them.  I heard a couple of the songs on the radio, but mostly I was listening to Pandora and heard them from there. I believe the playlist that I have says that I am a positive and happy person.

A person picks the music they want to listen to based on their mood so when I picked these songs I based it on my mood at that specific time. People will not see the other types of music I listen to because at that time I picked songs based on the mood I was in.   People might think I only listen to up beat music, but I like a lot of different types of music.
